At-Home Tips For Improving Your Oral Care Routine

Good oral hygiene is essential for a healthy mouth and body. It prevents tooth decay and gum disease, which can lead to tooth loss. Practicing good oral hygiene habits can also prevent the onset of painful and serious dental conditions, such as periodontal disease. Here are a few tips for maintaining good oral hygiene.

Brush Your Teeth Regularly

Maintaining your oral hygiene routine is one of the most important things you can do for your teeth and gums. Brushing and flossing your teeth helps to remove plaque, which is a sticky film of bacteria that forms on teeth every day due to poor oral health habits. Plaque begins to decay tooth enamel and make gums swollen and sensitive.

To properly remove plaque from teeth and along the gum line, be sure to brush twice a day. Use a soft-bristled toothbrush that is able to reach all the way to your back teeth when cleaning them. This can help prevent further damage to the gum line and help prevent damage from occurring in the first place. Use toothpaste with fluoride in it to make sure that your teeth are getting extra protection against the harmful effects of plaque buildup.

Floss Your Teeth

You should also floss daily to help keep any food particles from building up between your teeth. While brushing only reaches about 60% of the surface of your teeth, floss is able to clean the remaining surfaces between teeth. When these areas aren’t properly cleaned, you may end up spending more money on dental treatments in the future.

When you floss, be sure to scrape gently along each tooth surface individually to get the cleanest mouth possible. Plaque can build up quickly, so it’s important to brush twice a day along with flossing once a day to remove excess buildup and keep your mouth healthy and clean.

Rinse With An Antiseptic Mouthwash

Rinsing with mouthwash not only freshens your breath but can help protect the enamel on your teeth from decay and reduce the risk of gum disease. Look for an antiseptic mouthwash that contains fluoride, which can help make teeth more resistant to acid attacks that can break down the enamel and cause decay. Using mouthwash can also help reduce the chances of developing gingivitis. Mouthwashes can help kill harmful bacteria and reduce the amount of plaque on your teeth.
